has received the "Environmental Quality Brand " of the Cinque Terre National Park for our commitment to sustainable tourism. This brand is given to businesses within the national park that follow guidelines aimed at reducing the negative impacts of tourism on the environment and protecting our natural resources for current and future generations. The Green Ribbon Pledge

is an initiative to "conserve energy for a secure future". By encouraging energy efficiency, the campaign seeks to end our dangerous dependence on fossil fuel consumption and work toward a sustainable future. Join us in taking the Green Ribbon Pledge! The following is a list of the ten areas covered by the Environmental Quality Brand guidlines and the actions we have taken in each area:

ENERGY: we have replaced incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, at night lights are on just in hallways and bathrooms, we wash only full loads in dish- and clothes-washers.
WATER: our showers are coin operated, linen changes are on request only, we have installed faucet aerators and low-flow shower heads to reduce water use and energy used for water heating, we water flowers and plants with reclaimed waste water.
WASTE: we have recycling bins for paper, glass, plastic, aluminum cans, and batteries, bathrooms are equiped with electric hand-dryers to reduce paper waste.
TRANSPORTATION: we have information on hiking trails, as well as train, ferry and bus schedules.
TOXIC SUBSTANCES: we use biodegradable soaps and cleaning products.
AIR/NOISE: we have designated smoking areas, and a curfew.
FOOD: we serve organic breakfast and pasta, and we offer several types of traditional regional foods (including local wines and limoncino).
COMMUNICATION/INFORMATION: we have displays throughout the hostel regarding the environmental quality brand initiative.
TRAINING: hostel staff members regularly attend training seminars concerning the park initiative.
PRODUCT PURCHASING: we use office paper and toilet paper produced with recycled paper.
